History

Greyhound racing began at the South Tucson track in 1944. The park backed the 2016 bill that outlawed dog racing in Arizona and ran its final race on June 25, 2016, after 72 years; it was then the last operating greyhound track west of the Mississippi.

The 60-acre park kept taking simulcast bets until it closed on June 18, 2022. After a fire in May 2024, demolition began on June 27, 2025, to clear the land for a youth soccer academy affiliated with Borussia Dortmund.

Why it matters: Its last race ended live greyhound racing in Arizona and in the western United States.
