History
Alonzo Herndon Stadium opened in 1948 at Morris Brown College. It was expanded and renovated for the 1996 Summer Olympics, when it hosted the men's and women's field hockey tournaments from July 20 to August 2, 1996. The Atlanta Beat of the WUSA women's league later played there.
The stadium was abandoned after the college ran into financial difficulties. It has been gutted by vandals and covered in graffiti; the college has said it plans to restore it.
Why it matters: One of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic venues that has fallen into ruin.
