History

Built in 1922 just across the state line from Fall River, Massachusetts, the 15,000-capacity stadium was home to Fall River F.C., the 'Marksmen,' of the American Soccer League through 1931. It hosted the 1925 National Challenge Cup final and the first Lewis Cup final, and staged friendlies against clubs such as Rangers and Kilmarnock in the late 1920s.

Ponta Delgada S.C. played there in the 1940s and 1950s, and midget cars raced there in several seasons from 1939. The stadium was torn down in the 1950s; a drive-in theater later used the site, which is now an empty lot.

Why it matters: Home of the Fall River Marksmen, one of the strongest clubs of the original American Soccer League.
