History

The track opened on December 1, 1934, as the Hollywood Kennel Club, added a grandstand in 1940, and reopened as Hollywood Greyhound Track in 1974. After Broward County voters approved slots, a 2006 renovation turned it into the Mardi Gras Casino.

The last greyhound races were run on May 5, 2018, and that year Jeffrey Soffer bought the property and renamed it the Big Easy Casino.

Research confidence

Key facts on this page (opening, closing, status and location) are each supported by sources, with key dates corroborated by at least two independent sources. Last reviewed 2026-10-19.

Where sources disagree (2)
  • Wikipedia's overview list gives Hollywood Greyhound Track's dates as 1934-2020, but the casino article says the last racing day was May 5, 2018.
  • GeoNames also has a separate 'Hollywood Greyhound Track' point (ID 4158939, 25.9948131, -80.1456011) misfiled under Miami-Dade County; the Broward 'Hollywood Kennel Club' point is used here.
